Many of you heard of this turtle breed,its the red eared slider!One of the most recognizable turtle breeds in the turtle community,today we will discuss some facts and care for this turtle!

Don't be fooled by the adorably cute turtle hatchlings,these turtles don't stay small forever,the adults grow to 12 inches long!It's 10 gallons of water per inch of your turtle.A well cared for red eared slider kept in captivity has a lifespan of 20 years.Some world records show that curtain red eared sliders lived up to 30,40 and even 50 years!hatchlings who are not well cared for have a short lifespan. Fortunately,pets stores do not respect the amount of space that a red eared slider need,start with buying a 10 gallon tank for every inch it grows,or simply buy the biggest tank you can find!Its been ages since reptiles like turtles,can carry Salmonella and other bacteria.But don't let it stop you from getting a reptile,except if your sensitive to bacteria or if you have young children in your house.One of our puppy arena cousins told us that they had red eared sliders,and that he uses gloves whenever he handles them,safety first!Like most all aquatic animals.They eat messy,for your turtle,plan on having a filter rating 2-3 amount of water you have in your tank to keep your water clean!
